Fill the gender pay gap with menstrual awareness

As we read every day of shocking reports on gender pay gap, we often wonder why stark differences still persists although women in Western countries are now better educated than men. 

The worst performers on gender pay gap are big banks. HSBC admitted to 60% gap (Guardian 16.03.18), Barclays stands at 48% (The Times 8.03.18). Blue chip companies and big accountancy firms are similar, with KPMG at 42% (The Times 9.03.18) and Hammerson at 41.1% (The Times, 13.03.18). What about institutions like Church of England? 40% (The Times 2.08.17). Hold on to your seat: when we consider only top earning individuals, men outstrip women by 4 to 1 (The Observer 11.03.18). Women also spend 60% more time in unpaid work (grocery shopping, elderly, etc.).

Women will never be able to fill the gender gap in this system, because the system is built upon inequality and exploitation, where 1% of the population bags 82% of total wealth and the slave industry has never been better, like, e-v-e-r.

It is not a coincidence that women leaders are just as prone to gender stereotyping (The Sunday Times 18.06.17) – to succeed in this world, you gotta play by the rules.

As Simone de Beauvoir wrote in “The Second Sex”:

“Representation of the world, like the world itself, is the work of men; they describe it from their own point of view, which they confuse with absolute truth.”

How to fill the gender pay gap

Women are not aware of their value, therefore are unable to project it into the world.

One of the main reasons – certainly not the only one – is that we are profoundly ignorant of how our body and mind work (here called body and mind literacy), and also because they have taught us history and religion as if the divinity had not been female for over 10,000 years, as if women in the Paleolithic were not the travellers and those spreading culture, technology.

We need an inner revolution, ladies. We need to take responsibility. We need to be profoundly aware of our cyclical nature, to be free, to enfold our full potential, to change the rules of the game. Linear economy, linear thinking, competition, perpetual growth, the cult of reason and social image need to be re-balanced, and only those who are deeply connected to their cyclical nature will be able to receive the new vision to build new rules. Men are cyclical too, but it is more subtle. Therefore, it is up to women. We have  civil rights, political rights, religious freedom, education, science and money needed (even with the gender pay gap). This is what the Dalai Lama meant when he said that Western women are going to save humanity

Validation of cyclical experience brings fertile inner and outer space for diversity (also good for traditional business, so no excuses!) and ignored perspectives out of the shadow. A strong body and mind literacy develops openness to allow nature the space it needs and fosters a long-term commitment to a lifestyle that supports natural regenerative processes. This is the way of the future: we can either wait that it is dispensed upon us by nature (usually in ruthless, violent and totally shitty ways, only proportional to the way we treat it now) or decide to start collaborating with nature. 

Cycles are the blueprint of life, we can only flourish if we become increasingly aware of their influence and rules on our bodies and our perception of reality. 

A good place to start are the breath and the menstrual cycle, because they are accessible, free and have a particularly profound impact when mindfully practiced.
